We are working on transforming the traditional school library at Grover C. Fields into a "Learning Commons." A Learning Commons is a place where students can collaborate, design, create, and take part in innovative learning experiences, as well as checkout books, read, and relax. With the help of our community members, we are making progress. Our students are currently planning and designing an herb garden, as well as a succulent garden. Our goal is to plant herbs in the window sills and feature books related to herbal remedies and cooking.
Another project that we are currently working on is our Black History Month Celebration display. Featured titles displayed include biographies and other nonfiction materials that focus on African American historical figures. Several grants have been written for materials to add to our library. These materials include droids/robotics, programming materials, and circuits. Our goal is to provide a space for students and teachers to venture outside of the traditional classroom setting and become in-touch with their inner creativity. This space will definitely provide students with the opportunity to "think out side the box." |
